Bitcoin ETFs just clawed a week back — Ethereum funds are still bleeding
Thursday tried to bury the week. The week refused to stay buried — at least on the bitcoin side of the ETF tape.
U.S. spot bitcoin ETFs finished the latest full week with roughly $300–$440 million in net creations (tracker prints vary by cut-off), enough to snap a two-week losing streak even after Thursday’s roughly $635 million flush and a soft Friday follow-through. October is still a mess month-to-date — still red after that midweek whiplash — but the weekly scoreboard flipped back to green. Price barely wrote a thank-you note. Bitcoin spent the weekend neighborhood grinding the low $80ks, still well below the mid-$84k tease from earlier in the month.
Ethereum funds did not get the same courtesy. Ether ETFs just booked a fourth straight week of net outflows, on the order of ~$220–$225 million for the week and something like $1.2–$1.3 billion over the last month depending on whose ledger you trust. Solana products stayed small and mostly red. XRP sleeves flickered green in spots. The combined “crypto ETF complex” can still print a net-positive week when bitcoin does the heavy lifting — which is exactly what just happened.
What the split actually says
This is not “risk-on is back.” It’s bifurcation with a filing cabinet.
Bitcoin remains the default institutional pipe. When authorized participants want a regulated long, they still reach for the heavyweight BTC tickers first. Ether products are eating a slower, stickier kind of disappointment: weaker staking-adjacent narratives, a Glamsterdam calendar that just slipped on Hoodi, and a market that treats ETH beta as optional when the macro tape gets sharp. Four red weeks in a row is not a one-day AP mood. That’s a vote with redemptions.
For anyone watching early-stage CAs on X, the translation is blunt. ETF weather still sets the risk budget around the edges of the tape — not the destiny of a fresh mint — but a week where BTC creations return while ETH keeps leaking tells you where discretionary size feels safest parking. Launch desks that assume “crypto inflows” as a single blob are reading last year’s spreadsheet.
The Early-Stage read
Watch three tells into the next sessions:
- Whether bitcoin’s weekly green survives another ugly single day — one Thursday already proved the pipes run both ways.
- Whether ether’s fourth-week bleed becomes a fifth — that’s the difference between digestion and a regime.
- Whether alt sleeves (SOL, XRP, and the newer HYPE products) stay footnotes or start moving real size once BTC stabilizes.
Creations can look heroic on a Monday and vanish by Thursday. Price can ignore both. The useful habit is still the same: treat the flow headline as demand weather, then go check whether the CAs you care about are shipping into a tape that can actually absorb a first print.
